part of group exhibition work: forest talks to us

The exhibition “Forest Talks to Us” opens up perspectives on the sense of nature and community. The exhibition is based on an experience of a community that includes people and nature. Human and non-human nature are in constant contact, cooperation and dialogue.

On the Ropes?

Many different kinds of symbols are understood in different ways depending on our social, cultural, religious and moral experiences. Meaning of symbols vary from region to region and culture to culture. Yantra is a geometrical diagram used as a mediation aid. This yantra is co-created by oyster fungus and Abdi with the help of mycologist Katarina Česnikin (lab and production support). Mushrooms such as oyster fungus are part of our food chain, breaking down and recycling nutrients into ecosystems. The work symbolizes the invisible forces that create the life we experience. The phrase in the title of it, on the ropes, refers to being at the edge in a conflict. It is a vulnerable position in boxing, when somebody is pinned against the ropes enclosing the boxing ring.

Synastry: Earth and Human

Part of Group Exhibition : Forest Talks to Us

Video Art, (08:14 minutes). January 2021

Galleria Kellokas, Äkäslompolo (Kolari)

Human’s quest on earth is still in its infancy. In this video art, the sound comes from electrical resistance measured by passing a small current through the mushrooms. The changes in resistance are then converted into control signals which determine the rhythm, pitch, timbre and effects parameters of the modular synthesizer. Sound is created by musician MycoLyco. Chilean dancer Hugo Peña Lagos is exploringly dancing to the tunes of the Lapland forest.
